In what we at Augusta Blogging are hoping is just a misunderstanding, it seems as though the Assistant Public Defender Alexia Davis has been charged with theft of a ring valued at $10,500. The details of the case are sketchy at this point but from what we are able to gather two women came across a diamond ring in the parking lot of the Augusta/Grovetown Cracker Barrel and while one went into the store to inform employees of the find- Ms. Davis- apparently using her position of authority in government said that she would turn the ring over to the sheriff’s department.
The owner of the ring filed a police report leading to an investigation. After several weeks of not turning in the ring, Ms. Davis was identified as the person in possession of the property was encouraged to turn her self in to authorities.
According to AugustaCrime.com
Assistant Public Defender Alexia Davis has surrendered to Columbia County authorities on charges of theft of lost or mislaid property.
Davis, 31, is accused of holding onto a $10,500 diamond ring she found in the parking lot of the Grovetown Cracker Barrel, according to sheriff’s Capt. Steve Morris. Sources tell The Jail Report that the attorney even had the ring appraised.
According to Facebook, Ms. Davis looks to be originally from Mansfield, Texas
“When someone finds property that doesn’t belong to them, … then they have to, by law, take reasonable measures to restore that property to its owner. And that was not done in this case,” Capt. Morris said.
Davis surrendered about 9 a.m. Tuesday and was expected to be released on a $2,600 surety bond.
